Bomber Jacket Dedication
On March 7, 2024, the Devane/Adair families donated a WWII bomber jacket to the Quitman Brooks County Museum and Cultural Center. Charles Edwin Devane was a part of the 14th Air Force which later became the 23rd Wing at Moody Air Force Base. Devane was part of the Flying Tigers, who proudly wore the bomber jacket from World War II decorated with a patch designed by Walt Disney. His son, Bob Devane, wanted the jacket to come back home and be on display at the museum. At the dedication of the jacket the museum President, Linda Booth, said, "We are so thankful to the family for allowing us to have the piece of their history." Mark "Radio" Godwin, 23rd Wing Historian said, "America considers the men and women of World War II as a part of the greatest generation and it is wonderful that we have a piece of that history here.

In 2022 the museum organized a Broadway like production entitled "Cruising Steady" which featured the music of Arethea Franklin and Smokey Robinson. This was a fundraiser for the museum and it was a great success. Be looking for announcements of other great events like this in the future.

The museum sponsored a very successful Kentucky Derby Party fundraiser on May 6, 2023. With approximately 300 in attendance we had a grand time with a buffet of delicious food, as well as, music and dancing. There were many items auctioned through our Live and Silent Auctions and eleven winners shared in the race winnings. The ladies wore fancy hats with winners chosen in two categories. It was a beautiful evening as the sun set on the fun and fellowship under the big tent beautifully decorated with roses. My what a great time was had by all.
